Why choose a cottage with a spa?

There are many good reasons to choose a cottage with a spa. First of all, it's a luxurious detail that elevates the entire holiday experience. But a spa is not just about indulgence – it's also about health and balance.

The warm water stimulates circulation, eases sore muscles and joints, and helps the body recover after physical activity. At the same time it has a documented positive effect on sleep quality and stress levels. A quiet moment in the spa can help you find the inner calm that everyday life rarely allows.

That's why many people choose a cottage with a spa as an active part of a wellness holiday in Denmark. It's not only for couples on a romantic weekend – families and groups of friends also enjoy a spa as a gathering point, where laughter and relaxation go hand in hand.

Spa – for both children and adults

A cottage with a spa is not only for adults. It's also a hit with children, who love splashing, playing and cosying up in the warm water. For the little ones the spa feels like a small paddling pool with many hours of fun and laughter in the warm water.

For adults the spa offers something completely different: peace, well‑being and massage. The powerful jets and the warm water help the body relax, release tension and create a feeling of total relaxation. Many use the spa as a form of wellness treatment, where they can switch off completely after an active day at the beach, cycling or in nature.

Thus the spa functions as a gathering point for the whole family – a place where both children and adults can enjoy the magical qualities of the water in their own way.

Spa, jacuzzi, whirlpool and hot tub – what do the different words mean?

Although many people use the words spa, jacuzzi, whirlpool and hot tub interchangeably, there are small differences in meaning and history that are worth knowing.

  • Spa is the most common term in English here. A spa can be both indoor and outdoor, and is characterised by heated water, massage functions and jets that create water circulation and bubbles.
  • Jacuzzi was originally a brand name. The Jacuzzi family in the USA developed the first modern spas with water massage in the 1960s. Today the word is widely used to describe luxury spas – especially outdoor models.
  • Whirlpool is the English term, which literally means “whirlpool”. It describes the powerful, rotating water movement that massages the body and gives a feeling of weightlessness.
  • Hot tub is a somewhat more colloquial expression often used about smaller indoor spas where air bubbles provide a gentle massage and create a cosy atmosphere.

No matter which term you prefer, it ultimately comes down to enjoyment, warmth and the soothing power of water.

Indoor and outdoor spa – two different wellness experiences

When you rent a cottage with a spa, you can often choose between an indoor and an outdoor spa – and both types have their own special charm.

An indoor spa is perfect for year‑round use. You can sit in the warm water while the rain taps against the window, or after a winter walk on the beach. Many indoor spas are located in the bathroom, in a wellness room or connected to the pool area – ideal for cosy relaxation in private surroundings.

An outdoor spa or outdoor jacuzzi offers a completely different atmosphere. Here you sit under the open sky, surrounded by nature, while the bubbles massage your body. It's an experience that is hard to beat – especially on cool evenings when the contrast between the fresh air and the warm water feels extra luxurious. Many people specifically choose cottages with an outdoor spa for that unique feeling of freedom and closeness to nature.

Wilderness hot tub – nature's own spa experience

More and more cottages today offer a wilderness hot tub as a more “natural” alternative to the classic spa. A wilderness hot tub typically has a more rustic and natural appearance, often made of wood to blend with the surroundings. It is often heated with wood, which gives an authentic and rustic atmosphere and makes the heating part of the experience.

Different wilderness hot tubs are heated with wood, gas or electricity. A wood‑fired hot tub gives a more authentic and nature‑near experience, while electric and gas provide faster heating.

Where the spa is often electric and equipped with modern features like jets, lights and temperature control, the wilderness hot tub appeals to those seeking a simpler form of wellness. It is popular among nature lovers who enjoy the scent of wood, the sound of crackling fire and the sight of stars while sitting in warm water in the middle of nature.

Both spas and wilderness hot tubs give you the opportunity to completely switch off – but they do it in different ways. One with technology and comfort, the other with simplicity and presence.

Common features of spa, jacuzzi, whirlpool and hot tub

Although there are different names and variants, all types of spa have one thing in common: they create well‑being. They combine heat, water and motion in a way that helps the body relax and the mind find peace.

A cottage with a spa is therefore much more than just a holiday home – it's a place where you can restore balance, feel calm and enjoy quality time with those you care about. Whether you prefer a modern outdoor jacuzzi, a classic hot tub or a rustic wilderness hot tub, the experience will be full of relaxation and well‑being.

Flow‑through spa or standing‑water spa – how they work

When you look for a cottage with a spa, you may come across the terms flow‑through spa and standing‑water spa.

A flow‑through spa is drained and refilled for each guest – which means you always bathe in fresh water. These models are often used in rental cottages because they are easy to clean and require minimal maintenance. The water heats up quickly, and you can enjoy a clean and hygienic spa experience every time.

Before use the water is filled, chlorine tablets are added according to the instructions in the cottage, and then the water circulation is started.

A standing‑water spa, on the other hand, keeps the water permanently, which is continuously cleaned and filtered. It is more similar to a professional spa or pool system and is typically found in luxury cottages or private homes where the spa is used frequently.

Both types provide a lovely experience, but it can be helpful to know the difference so you choose the solution that best suits your wishes and needs during the holiday.
