Limousin-Cottage is a very quaint 18C village house, very quietly situated in an off-road location in a tiny Haute Vienne village, approximately 30 minutes drive from Limoges, the capital of the Haute Vienne. The department has just become part of the new super-region of Nouvelle Aquitaine. There is a little courtyard in front of the cottage for safe off-road parking, and to the rear is the garden and open countryside beyond. The one-bedroomed cottage is perfect for a couple, but can sleep up to four, as there is a double sofabed in the living room and there is also a fold-up single bed and a cot, either of which can be used in the bedroom. The cottage is very well equipped and furnished, and retains all of it's 18C character, with beams and flagged floors. On the first floor is the light and airy double bedroom, with ample storage space for all of your clothes, and an absolutely wonderful view over the countryside behind the cottage. Right next to the double bedroom is the shower room, with power shower and heated towel radiator. On the ground floor is the sitting/dining room which has a log-burning stove for Winter lets. There is UK and French TV and an excellent, free wi-fi connection. The dining area seats four. There is a dvd player with a selection of films to choose from, plus many books. We welcome your well-behaved pet. The kitchen is compact, but has everything you need. The sunny garden and patio area has garden furniture, sunloungers and bbq, and exterior lighting. The night sky is astonishing, as there is very little light pollution, and you can often see and hear many different birds, including buzzards, and at night in Summer a little nightingale sings his heart out most of the night. It is also a treat to sit outside and track the International Space Station as it crosses from horizon to horizon. Not far from the cottage is a wonderful lake, Lac de Mondon, where you can fish or go for long walks along the river into prehistoric forest. The river when in full flow is known as the boiling pot! There is a waterfall and a cave shelter from prehistoric times. It is a magical place and you hardly ever see another soul. At Lac de Mondon there is a swimming pool in Summer, and a poolside bar restaurant. For a more upmarket dining experience there is the Auberge du Lac de Mondon, which overlooks the lake, and you can dine on the terrace. The village has no shops, but the nearest town, St Sulpice les Feuilles, is just 2 kms away. For lovers of brocantes and car boot sales, just along the road is a great fleamarket and brocante centre, with an astonishing array of second-hand goods, bric a brac and antiques. There is a huge monthly farmers' market at Les Herolles, about a 15 minute drive away. It is arguably the biggest market in France. On a visit to the Haute Vienne it is a must to see the World War 2 martyr village of Oradour sur Glane. There are many lakes and rivers to visit, and the region is known as the French Lake District. You can hire kayaks on the rivers, particularly at Crozant, about a half hour drive from the cottage. All in all you will find as much or as little as you choose to do on your holiday at Limousin-Cottage.
