Great Adventures for Family Holidays to the Sierra Nevada in Spain
Spain is a popular holiday destination for families. The weather is nice, the beaches are good, the people are friendly and there is plenty around to keep the children occupied. But if you are looking to get them active then head up to the Sierra Nevada which offers some great adventures that guarantee the whole family will enjoy.

Just an hour and a half drive from Malaga near the city of Granada is the Sierra Nevada mountain range. In winter you can take advantage of one of Spain's best ski resorts and hit the slopes for the day with a good range of pistes for both beginners and advanced skiers.
If you do not like the sound of ski resorts then you can opt for something different and try a day at snowshoeing. Snowshoeing has long been a form of transport for many people in Nordic and Arctic countries but there is still many people that have yet to discover this up and coming popular sport. Anybody can have a go and it is a fun way to have a day in the snow.
The Sierra Nevada offers some fabulous snowshoeing routes which entail going through pine forests, open mountain hills and all with fantastic views down to the coast.
In the month of August when the temperatures are soaring 35+ degrees on the coastal areas, the ski center opens one of the chair lifts which takes you to the bottom of Veleta. It is then only an hour and a half walk to the top of mainland Spain's 2nd highest mountain where a picnic is most enjoyable and makes a great family day out.
If you want to keep to lower level walking and trekking Las Alpujarras to the South of the Sierra Nevada mountain range offers some good paths and routes. From simple 2 hour white village walking to trekking along the famous GR7 footpath which run all the way to Greece!
For those which would like something a little less strenuous then take to the saddle to see the amazing views on offer from up above by horseback. There are many areas which are great for horse riding holidays in Spain but Andalusian horses are used in these parts of Spain, known for there stamina, bold and sure footed attitudes perfect for the terrain in the mountains. Choose from high mountain experiences to lower level rides comprising of mule tracks, dirt roads and valleys.
If the 4 legged kind of transport is not your thing then the two wheeled variety of mountain biking might be. The numerous dirt roads, mule tracks and pretty little white villages give you the perfect opportunity to get around and see the most what is on offer here. You can opt for guided tours or hire a bike and do your own thing.
The Sierra Nevada has allot to offer in both adventures and scenery. You are also perfectly situated here with only an hours drive to the nearest beach of Salobreña and a half hour drive to the city of Granada where you can still enjoy the real traditional Spanish culture.
